Utopia, a residency space in the Mafala district of Maputo, Mozambique
We are two long-time friends, Caldino Perema and Eduardo Abdala, and this space is our teenage dream. Today, we are both professional lighting designers and we want this space to be for you today what we always wanted for ourselves. A space whose aim is to offer the younger generation the possibility to contact and collaborate with artists with different practices.
Utopia was born out of the urgent need to have a local offer, both for art professionals to work and experiment with their projects, and for the local public to enjoy the activities developed by the artists. Utopia is a space for the exchange of experiences, both on an amateur and professional level. With a rehearsal room and an office with technical equipment. We will have learning residencies and artistic-professional advice. And for the local public, an intense programme of artistic performances, open rehearsals, workshops, exhibitions, concerts and lectures.
